Steve seems to be about the nicest guy involved in Fox Sports. This is a shame that he has to suffer this.

Fox broadcaster Steve Byrnes celebrates birthday Joe Rogers Sporting News 4/14/15 Even though Fox Sports broadcaster Steve Byrnes is battling a second round of head and neck cancer in intensive care, he still found a way to celebrate his 56th birthday Tuesday. According to the NASCAR Race Hub host and NASCAR pit road announcer for FOX Sports, every day is a big deal. "I look at it this way, I celebrate every day as a birthday,'' Byrnes said via NASCAR media. "Some people say, 'Oh, no, another year older.' To me, that's a privilege, an absolute privilege.'' Byrnes' message since the beginning of his cancer battle has been to be present and live in the moment, an inspiring message to those battling cancer, so when Bristol Motor Speedway decided to change the name of Sunday's race to the Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up To Cancer, Byrnes was humbled. “The support I have received from my teammates at Fox Sports, drivers, team members, track officials, NASCAR and the fans has been overwhelming,” Byrnes said. “So many families are affected by cancer, and to play a small part in raising awareness is an honor to me. "So many fans reach out to me with personal stories about cancer,'' Byrnes added. "Just today, I got one from a three-time head-and-neck survivor, telling me, 'You can do it.' So many people have shared heartwarming stories or have questions for me because they are at the beginning of their journey. I read every one." Happy birthday, Steve. We are all pulling for you. Steve Passed Away about Noon on Tuesday 4/21/2015
USAToday 2:34 p.m. EDT April 21, 2015
Steve Byrnes, the longtime FOX Sports NASCAR broadcaster whose courageous battle against cancer drew support from every corner of stock car racing, died Tuesday at age 56.
Byrnes passed away just two days after the race at Bristol Motor Speedway, which was named the "Food City 500 in Support of Steve Byrnes." Though he was unable to attend the race, Byrnes watched it on TV and tweeted a response to a fan who asked if he made it through the entire rain-delayed event.
"I went the distance," Byrnes tweeted.
NASCAR chairman and CEO Brian France said Byrnes "work ethic and authenticity made him a beloved individual inside and outside the garage."
"His level of professionalism was matched only by the warmth he showed everyone he met," France said. "He battled cancer with tenacity, and was a true inspiration to everyone in the NASCAR family. Simply stated, we'll miss Steve dearly. Our thoughts are especially with his wife Karen and son Bryson during this difficult time."
Reaction poured in from the NASCAR world, as many drivers knew Byrnes from his 30 years of broadcasting, including as a reporter for FOX since it began covering the sport in 2001.
David Hill, the former FOX Sports chairman who is now the senior executive vice president for FOX, said Byrnes was "defined by his journalistic integrity and kindness."
"The consummate television professional, he established himself as a star on SPEED Channel, where viewers simply loved his knowledge, his sense of humor and his easygoing nature, becoming the Mr. Rogers of NASCAR — a warm voice everyone trusted," Hill said. "Even more impressive, and fully on display last weekend in Bristol, Steve was loved and respected by the entire NASCAR community, from the drivers to the team owners to the front office executives. I am devastated by his passing."

ESPN on Steve's Passing
Steve Byrnes, a popular Fox broadcaster who reported on NASCAR for the last 30 years and whose cancer battle inspired the racing community, died Tuesday. He was 56.
A pit reporter for Sprint Cup Series races and co-host of a weekday NASCAR program, Byrnes joined Fox in 2001 following more than 15 years of working NASCAR races and shows for CBS, TNN, TBS and The History Channel.
After an initial diagnosis of head and neck cancer in August 2013, Byrnes responded well to treatment and returned to his job for the 2014 season. He took a leave of absence in October to battle cancer once again, chronicling his fight on social media.
The Sprint Cup race Saturday at Bristol, Tennessee, was named the Food City 500 In Support of Steve Byrnes and Stand Up To Cancer, a way for the industry to honor Byrnes and give support to those fighting the disease.
"His level of professionalism was matched only by the warmth he showed everyone he met," NASCAR chairman Brian France said in a statement. "He battled cancer with tenacity, and was a true inspiration to everyone in the NASCAR family. Simply stated, we'll miss Steve dearly."
While honoring 2014 Sprint Cup champion Kevin Harvick during a ceremony Tuesday at the White House, President Barack Obama mentioned the passing of Byrnes.
"I also want to offer my condolences to everybody in the NASCAR community on the passing of a legendary reporter and broadcaster, Steve Byrnes," Obama said. "I know a lot of fans' thoughts and prayers today are with his wife, Karen, and his son, Bryson."
Byrnes is also survived by his parents; Bryson is 12.
