i had shit to do today so just finished watching the truck race. I think Kevin was right calling out the Dillon boys & Childress after what Richard said on the radio. If you didn't hear it, MRN said he told Ty to hit Kevin during the yellow. I'm just wondering if Kevin might be out of the 29 for the rest of the chase. Oh, & I'm also wondering if the crew guy was instructed to throw the sledge hammer @ Kevin's truck on pit road. It will be interesting tomorrow.
Congrats to Bubba Wallace, great driving & a kickass win.

I just saw Kevin on the FSports pre-race show and he was apologizing a lot. No interviews with the RCR side.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Kevin Harvick apologized Sunday for calling teammate Ty Dillon “a punk-ass kid” after they tussled on the track in the Camping World Truck Series race Saturday at Martinsville Speedway.
Speaking on Fox Sports’ “NASCAR RaceDay” program Sunday, Harvick said he was overcome with the emotion of the wreck with a dozen laps remaining.

Speaking on Fox Sports’ “NASCAR RaceDay” program Sunday, Harvick said he was overcome with the emotion of the wreck with a dozen laps remaining.
“There was just a lot of emotion involved,” he said on the Fox show. “I hate it for everybody at RCR. You go back and look at the things that happened, and sometimes you regret the things that you say for sure.
“Yesterday was definitely one of them. I hate it for my guys, and everybody working on the cars. Obviously, when those emotional situations come about, you say things that you really don’t want to say. I just want to apologize to all of those guys, work hard today and try and do everything we can to win the race.”
Harvick, tied for third in the Cup standings with four races remaining, attempted to calm some of the fury after he ripped Ty and Austin Dillon — the grandchildren of his team owner, Richard Childress.
A member of Ty Dillon’s RCR crew threw a rubber mallet at Harvick’s truck during the turmoil Saturday. Harvick is leaving RCR after the season — along with sponsors Budweiser and Jimmy John’s — to go to Stewart –Haas Racing.
“I don’t care what they throw at me,” Harvick told the Sporting News as he left the track Saturday. “That’s exactly the reason I’m leaving RCR is because you’ve got those punk-ass kids coming up.”
Childress was furious at Harvick, at one point cutting off a question on him by saying “(expletive) him” before gaining his composure and saying he was disappointed and would say what he wanted to Harvick’s face.
While it is possible that Childress could fire Harvick for saying something derogatory about his grandsons — both who are on a path to Cup rides — it would be unprecedented to fire a driver still in contention for the Cup championship. With Budweiser sponsoring Harvick for each of the last three races, it obviously would want him to remain in the car as well.
Ty Dillon said that as far as the accident, he did get into the back of Harvick’s truck and then Matt Crafton got into him, which caused more damage. But he was upset that Harvick, driving for NTS Motorsports on Saturday, hit him under caution. Dillon then tried to hit Harvick, with Childress on the radio encouraging him to wreck Harvick.
Harvick then stopped in the Dillon pit, which resulted in the mallet throw.
“To hit us after the fact and to tear up our car, that’s just typical Kevin Harvick,” Dillon said. “That’s pretty much the career at RCR for him.”
Harvick said Sunday that he had not talked with Ty Dillon.
“You never want to be in a situation like we’re in, and obviously, the short-track racing and everything that happened, you try to do the right things, and yesterday I didn’t do the right thing,” Harvick said.
“We just have to do what we have to do today to put ourselves in a position to be as successful as we can. It’s best for all of us to just cool down and have a sensible conversation about things. I wish that’s what I would have done yesterday. It’s one of those situations that you don’t want to be a part of, but I don’t have anybody else to blame but myself.”

Sporting News 10/27/13
MARTINSVILLE, Va. — Richard Childress fiercely defended his two grandsons Sunday morning, a day after Childress driver Kevin Harvick called Ty Dillon “a punk-ass kid” after they wrecked at Martinsville Speedway.
Harvick’s job might be safe but the relationship with Childress, the owner of Richard Childress Racing, soured after he called Childress’ grandsons Austin and Ty Dillon spoiled “punks” and “rich kids” following Saturday’s race.
“What happened on the track was one thing,” Childress said, “but the comments afterwards is where I’m really upset. … I’ll never apologize for giving my grandsons an opportunity, just like the France family, the Earnhardt family, the Wood brothers. You go down the list of the people that have been given opportunities.
“All of them didn’t make it. You’ve got to go out and earn what you’ve got, the opportunity in life to succeed. And these boys earned it.”
Harvick, driving a truck for NTS Motorsports, wrecked Ty Dillon under caution and stopped in Dillon’s pit stall after the wreck with about 12 laps remaining in the truck race.
“That’s exactly the reason I’m leaving RCR is because you’ve got those punk-ass kids coming up,” Harvick told Sporting News.
On national television, Harvick said: “They’ve got no respect for what they do in this sport and they’ve had everything fed to them with a spoon. … It’s a shame you’ve got to get taken out by some rich kid like that.”
Harvick, who has been with Childress his entire Cup career since replacing Dale Earnhardt after Earnhardt’s death in 2001, apologized for the comments Sunday.
Childress, though, was still upset Sunday morning. Childress said 95 percent of drivers have had help getting into the sport from their family.
Ty Dillon dropped from second to third in the truck standings after the wreck. Ty Dillon will move to the Nationwide Series next season and Austin, who is leading the Nationwide Series standings, is expected to move to Cup but no sponsor has been announced.
“These aren’t spoiled rich kids,” Childress said. “These are hard working young men that believe in what they’re doing. They knew they’ve got to go out and prove themselves.
“They’ve got to race up front to keep a job. They knew that when I put them in the first Bandolero car. It’s just not fair for someone to make a statement like that.”
Childress, who talked with Harvick on Sunday morning, said he is committed to Harvick and the team sponsors for the final four races of the season.
“We’re going to give him everything humanly possible to win that championship,” Childress said. “I’m committed to him for four more races, just like I committed to him the day that he said he was leaving. I shook his hand and committed I’d give him 100 percent, and I’m going to do it.
“But I’m not going to be backed into a corner.”

I wish Harvick had not apologized. I might be a fan of his now after those comments he made. What is your reason for becoming a Harvick fan? you don't like RCR or the grand kids or the specific Dillon? Harvick has been in lots of squabbles with lots of different drivers. Not sure why this should be any different.

What is your reason for becoming a Harvick fan? you don't like RCR or the grand kids or the specific Dillon? Harvick has been in lots of squabbles with lots of different drivers. Not sure why this should be any different. That's a good question. Yeah, he's been in squabbles with lots and lots of drivers over the years, but I would categorize all of those disputes as racing deals that quickly escalated and quickly moved on. For lack of a better term, those were shallow encounters. This one is different. I think he came out and said what a lot of people in and around the sport must have been thinking for a long time. Yeah, it was a heat of the moment type thing, but I think it still took a lot of guts to come out and say it while he still drives for RC. To me it makes him more personable, showing that this isn't just a business. RC can say all he wants about how those boys had to earn it; and to be fair, they have. But I have to believe that there's been a ton of things behind the scenes that Harvick has witnessed for him to feel that way, and explicitly cite as his reason for leaving RCR. RE: the actual incident, I said on this board roughly a year ago that I was a fan of Ty, and not so much Austin. But Ty going out of his way to try and spin Harvick not once, but several times, struck a chord with me. And one more thing to add; I'm a fan of RC specifically, for being a part of the group that gave Busch another shot in this sport.

It is more like typical big mouth Harvick.
Without RCR his career would may not have been so successful.
Without DE's death his career would have not moved forward as fast.
He owes more loyalty to RCR or could at least keep his mouth shut till he is gone. Now it is awkward to say the least.
Also Childress has every right to employ his grandsons. Nascar racing has always been a family type business.
Admiring a big mouth?

Admiring an honest mouth. If he was so honest why did he rescind it the next day? If he had convictions for what he said, he would not have apologized. Unless he is weak and intimidated by RCR. I would prefer my kids pick better heroes.

I agree to disagree.
I think a PR person probably got a hold of him and advised him to apologize. But like I said in my first post, I wish he hadn't apologized. I also said "I might be a fan of his now..." Meaning, I don't have him on the hero pedestal, but he might be someone I root for. Nor am I advising any children to make him a hero. I'm merely speaking for myself.

After seeing everything, hearing everything & now knowing when everything was done. I came to this conclusion. Harvick was a douche bag. I am not thinking this because he was mad about being spun. Think all drivers will feel that way. But when looking at that wreck. Dillon was trying to move him out of the way which all drivers will try & do on a short track, when a slower car is blocking trying to hold position. & honestly I don't think Dillon wrecked Harvick, it was Crafton that ran into Dillon that wrecked Harvick. Now you might at 1st glance think it was just a tap, but it couldn't be. Crafton kept pushing Dillon to the point that Dillon spun the other direction, which would have never happened with just a tap with his car on Harvicks. So with hindsight 20/20. I would say Crafton is the instigator of the wreck. However in the heat of the moment completely understand why Harvick would think that. So I get why he was initially mad. Now to the Douche bag part. Didn't realize it at 1st when hearing the story, but Harvick parked in the 3's pit while the race was still going. Then I heard ppl talking trash to the 3 team for going after Harvick & his truck. This isn't the 1st time he has done this either. He did it to Hamlin during a race as well, only Hamlin just punted Harvicks car out of his pit. I think Harvick should have been parked for the weekend once I realized this happened during the race still. As far as I know he hasn't even gotten a warning about that BS. If I were a crew member I would want to jack his jaw as well if he pulled that stunt in my pits. That is a complete Douche bag move that should have had severe consequences, no matter who wrecked who on the track. I am gonna have to disagree with you on this one DHOB. No way I could stand for that crap at any track. I honestly cant wait for his cavalier attitude to get him his ass kicked by doing it to the wrong driver someday.

Following this thread I wondered why nobody mentioned pulling in the pit stall. I had seen it on TV with the announcer noting it was something like 4 laps from the checkers. So I knew Kevin was at fault there but from the repeats I saw I could not be sure exactly how much influence the car hitting Dillon had on what happened to Harvick. That was a good explanation Schmoopy. Cleared it all up.
