NASCAR went to an exclusive tire supplier for safety reason in the mid-1990s to keep teams from having to make a decision between a faster but less durable tire and a slower but more reliable one. Goodyear works with NASCAR to create a suitable tire for each race event

I still cannot shake the Brickyard mess from a couple years ago. Yeah that was pretty bad, but remember the mess back when Hoosiers and Goodyear were both allowed? It seemed that the brands almost changed composition during the races, the competition between brands was so strong. As I remember it, Jeff Bodine was a big Hoosier driver then.

It has been years so my memory is a little faded, but I seem to remember so many cautions for shredded tires that it really cut into the good racing.
