Mauricio Herrera got a bad call with the win given to Jose Benavidez .
There was discussion during the fight from Harold Lederman that Herrera could possibly suffer in a decision because Benavidez was more glitzy and an up and comer. Then at the end of the fight when Lederman gave his score he joked about what his daughter Julie might say. Well she said the opposite of dad and gave the bout to Benavidez. The HBO crew was loud in not agreeing with the decision.
I hate to see these way out of line decisions.
Andy Lee's knockout of Matt Korobov was a classic underdog super punch.
Korobov who looked pretty good till that one punch looked happy to be led to a stool by the ref.

Korobov who looked pretty good till that one punch looked happy to be led to a stool by the ref. one of the things I noticed through the recent years. How the commentators speak of a fight. Almost like they are directing the fans on how they want them to see the fight. I have watched fights where I am thinking I don't know who is winning, but they talk up the guy they want/expect to win the fight & sometimes down play the other guy. So in a fight I am thinking I am not sure who is winning, they are commentating like it is a walk through. Now some fights are more obvious than others, but I have learned not to listen to the commentators too much when watching a fight. As far as lederman. I often disagree with his accessment, so it never surprises me when the judges have a different score than him. The fact his daughter had the exact opposite score than him actually made me laugh. I think Herrera was robbed, but I also thought the Bradley, Chavez fight was a close one. So I really didn't mind the draw there although I couldn't agree with Julie's card. (I would have been closer to the 115-113 for Bradley card) As far as Andy Lee. I think he is a bit underrated. He was doing well against Julio Chavez Jr. before getting taken out by the guy with 20+ pounds on him later in the fight. I know Korobov was the guy they were wondering if he could take on GGG & the guy being hyped up. So it was refreshing to see the underdog go & win on the punchers chance

I said to my wife just before the decision that the Bradley- Chavez could easily be a draw..
I have noticed how the announcers favor their fighters. I think it is their on air personalities that they have developed over the years.
As much as I enjoy Max Kellerman's interviews after fights, sometimes his narrative during a fight is more about the fighters history than what is going on in front of us.
Roy Jones starts out being more supportive of the black fighters.
Lamply is just pompous and thinks of himself as Mr. Boxing. I won't forget him sitting high up in the seats at the Riddick Bowe-Andrew Golota fight at Madison Square Garden, after a riot occurred. He was so shook up he was tearful. He was rambling and terrified. Not Mr. Cool that night.
The Herrera - Benavidez didn't need the announcers to explain it was a bad decision from my point of view.
HBO is my main network for boxing as I do not have Showtime. So I probably should not be so critical. But I find lately I sometimes fast forward through some of the pre bout taped stories of the fighters.
All that being said, I most always have HBO on or recording for any boxing match.

Max is my favorite of all the commentators Cant stand Roy Jones Jr. he was a great fighter but dumbass commentator. & the fact he trys to act like he is the smartest of the bunch makes his commentating even worse. & your right. he definitely tries to promote the black fighter. Speaking of Lampley being all high & mighty. I remember when MMA was getting hot, after a fight he did, he did nothing but try & trash the MMA & talked tall crap about how if you want to see skill you watch boxing & not MMA fighting LOL (I like both BTW) Wasn't to long after that. Boxing was saying they aren't trying to go toe to toe with MMA & appreciates both skills. I assume they got a lot of bachlash from Lampleys comments. They didn't want the fans to choose one or the other but rather both, as they would have lost fans if they tried to divide an either or scenario. I like Andre Ward as a commentator as well. Much rather have him over Jones.

My favorite member of the HBO team will probably always be Emanuel Steward.
