I am not a fan of the "locked in" 35, or provisional starting spots. I can't tell you how upset I get when I see faster cars go home while slower cars are given starting spots. I can't think of any other racing organization that does this. Can you imagine if one of the chase cars couldn't make the race? (Not likely but possible.) It seems like it's always a new low budget team or a new driver that gets sent home. How are they supposed to get experience if they can't get an even break in qualifying? If you are not fast enough to get a starting spot, you shouldn't be able to race. As far as the more well known sponsors go, not being able to qualify might possibly get them more air time than the winner of the race.( Granted, that's not the kind of publicity they would prefer.) There have been instances where all a driver has to do is start a race to win a title. Why not make them earn that starting spot? Fair is fair. If qualifying gets rained out then set the grid with the latest practice session times. If it looks like rain then adjust your strategy accordingly. What do you think?

Nascar is not going to risk a star not being in the race. Imagine if dale jr failed to qualify for Dega? It would be a disaster. The stands would be less than half full. "Alabama13" would rage out of control and drop kick everyone near him. I do think it should be tweeked. I like having the top 35 rule, although it doesn't have to stay at 35. I like those lesser teams having something to fight for. There may be even more start and parks otherwise.
