Have ABC on and the race is on a Red Flag for about an hour due to a major wreck involving about 15 cars.
It has been confirmed Dan Wheldon was flown from the track on a Life/Flight th the University Life Center.
Interviews with drivers are extremely emotional.
Not looking good.

They just confirmed after two hours of red flag that Dan Wheldon passed away due to his injuries.
The race will not be finished.
The drivers will drive a 5 lap salute to Dan.
ABC led by Marty Reid screwed up the coverage of the press conference announcing the death.

Don't follow much IRL but from what I have been hearing on TV the LV track may allow those cars to go way too fast.
It is always sad to see a driver killed at a track.
RIP Dan Wheldon.

Bummer. Dan was one of the good guys in IRL.

Before this race, they said that Will Power was within striking distance of Franchitti. Could Will had caught him if this race was finished? Is so, this puts Will in an awkward position.

Are you saying it's the tracks fault? Everybody involved knew the speeds they were going, the track doesn't have any control telling them how fast they can and can't go.

Not that the track is at fault for allowing IRL to use their facilities. More like IRL may have made a mistake racing that many cars on that particular track because of the speeds generated there. Also I have heard the opinion that some of the participants were not experienced enough to handle the extreme speed conditions & heavy traffic.

No way they should have run that many cars at those speeds running so tight together like they do, It's always easy to say that after the fact though. Before the race, even some of the drivers were hesitant..
I think they will make some changes and you probably won't see them here in Vegas again and maybe not at Texas as well..

Any info on this? He was 18 points behind Franchitti. Here is the point system. He had a chance Position Points 1st 50 2nd 40 3rd 35 4th 32 5th 30 6th 28 7th 26 8th 24 9th 22 10th 20 11th 19 12th 18 13th 17 14th 16 15th 15 16th 14 17th 13 18th 12 19th 12 20th 12 21st 12 22nd 12 23rd 12 24th 12 25th 10 26th 10 27th 10 28th 10 29th 10 30th 10 31st 10 32nd 10 33rd
