Frank Warner The Morning Call June 11, 2013
Four heroin dealers were arrested and their drugs seized outside the Party in the Poconos NASCAR race Sunday afternoon because their driver made a wrong turn leaving the track, police said.
The group attracted the attention of police when the car turned right against traffic exiting the Pocono Raceway from Long Pond Road onto Route 115 in Tunkhannock Township, state police at Fern Ridge said.
When police noticed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle and started a car search, two of the suspects tried to hide several heroin packets, but police and NASCAR fans spotted the attempt and police confiscated the drugs, police said.
Laquan D. Allison-Brown, 23, of Stroudsburg; Callie L. Godfrey, 20, of Stroudsburg; Erik C. Funk, 23, of Cresco; and Samantha L. Poalillo, 19 of Cresco were charged with possession with intent to distribute heroin.
They also were charged with related drug offenses. Police did not identify which of the suspects was driving.
Poalillo tried to hide packets of heroin, and Funk helped her stuff the drugs in her pants "in view of hundreds of race fans leaving the race," Trooper Daniel R. Nilon said.
Another 500 bags of heroin were found in a bag next to Godfrey's purse, and a large amount of cash was found in the car, police said.
Allison-Brown, Godfrey, Funk and Poalillo were arraigned Monday by District Judge Brian Germano, who sent them to Monroe County Prison to await further court action.
